The Sixth Sense
Welcome,
I'm Stefan, and this is the sixth edition of Looking For The Good Stuff, conceived and written at my HQ in Berlin, Germany. Just like Oscar Wilde, I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.
Beyond extrasensory perception
This month's mix by The Karminsky Experience on Soho Radio is probably as close as you can get to a true masterpiece! Vanina’s Love Theme by Gianfranco Plenizio and Edda Dell’orso, is setting the tone. Dwarf-Like by The Bid-On, Dans la soirée by Michel Legrand (from "La Piscine), Man in the Middle by Gale Garnett & The Gentle Reign, Right Track by Split Level, Scarborough Fair by the scat singing queen Kayoko Ishu and Spooky by (the pre-War band) Señor Soul are other examples from this great selection.
Do listen in!
How high is the sky?
The Sunday show Repassez-moi l'standard on France Musique is devoted to different and diverse versions of a song that is a part of the standard repertoire of western popular music, from the beginning of the 20th century and onwards. The latest episode focuses on Irving Berlin's How Deep is the Ocean, from 1932. 57 minutes of pure bliss,
Three is a magic number
Jazz Classics with James Valentine, three hours every Sunday on ABC in Australia, is always highly recommended. In the latest, show there is a special emphasis on some of the tracks on Bob Dorough's debut album Devil May Care, from 1956. But there is, of course, an open space for much more, from É luxo só by João Gilberto to See See Rider by Yusef Lateef and The Twitch by Quincy Jones. That's variety!
That's all for today. Aber ich komme wieder. The next issue will arrive tomorrow.
All the best,
Stefan
