Edition 14
Welcome,
I'm Stefan, and this is edition 14 of Looking For The Good Stuff, conceived and written at my HQ in Berlin, Germany. Just like Oscar Wilde, I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.
Under a wandering star
In 1980 the Dutch label Bubble released the French-Irish singer-songwriter Guy Maxwell’s album Outside My Window - a subtle mélange of cosmic folk, jazz fusion. easy listening and yacht rock. Now it has been re-released by the Hamburgian label Growing Bin Records.
Yesterday, Test Pressing had a short interview with Guy Maxwell. Here he talks about his musical inspirations, from the early recordings of The Beatles, to João Gilberto, Stevie Wonder and James Taylor.
Till I get there
In the early ´70s Leo Nocentelli, then lead guitarist of The Meters, recorded a solo album that was never released. The tapes were discovered by record collector Mike Nishita at a swap meet a few years ago - and soon the music can at last be heard!
On the 19th of November the album, called Another Side, will be released by Light in the Attic. The first track, Thinking of the Day, is already available.
Spirituals sounds on harp and synthesizer
Brandee Younger’s album Somewhere Different, released last month, is a clear and welcomed sign that jazz on harp is on it’s way back. Now the trend is underscored by the Caribbean-Belgian harpist Nala Sinephro’s ambient and celestial debut album Space 1.8, released on the electronica label Warp.
The next edition arrives on Wednesday.
All the best.
Stefan
