Edition 13
Welcome,
I'm Stefan, and this is edition 13 of Looking For The Good Stuff, conceived and written at my HQ in Berlin, Germany. Just like Oscar Wilde, I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.
Miles runs the voodoo down
Last Monday, it was 30 years since Miles Davis closed the door forever. This week, the show Musicopolis on France Musique has retrospected his musical life and career. The fifth and final episode was presented today.
The retrospect begins with the early years and Birth of the Cool and continues with his first quintet in the '50s. Then it goes further on to Kind of Blue and his second quintet in the '60s before rounding up with the fusion years.
Ethio Jazz - and more
Today marks the starting point of OkayAfrica's new special series, Crossroads, where they will have a deeper look at the politics and culture of different parts of the African continent.
In the coming four weeks, Ethiopia will be in focus. A presentation of ten songs that tell the story of Ethiopian music is first out of the box.
Tomorrow never knows
Two days ago, the new postgraduate programme The Beatles: Music Industry and Heritage started at the Department of Music, University of Liverpool. It is led by Dr. Holly Tessler, and the aim is to reframe and extend contemporary discourse about the Beatles into a 21st-century context.
In today's New York Times, there's an interesting presentation: A Year in the Life: Who Gets a Master's Degree in the Beatles?
That's all for this week. The next edition arrives on Monday.
All the best.
Stefan
